Don't Cry, My Dearest

Translation: hankeat@lyricstranslate

Don't cry, my dearest.
Tonight I bloom like a queen of the night
which falls in the most beautiful moment
The wither that can't even be reversed by your tears.
Don't cry, my dearest.
Do you know that I will not awake again?
Blink in the most beautiful night sky
my eyes are the most shining stars.
Do you still remember? I said with pride
that I have been in this world.
Don't tell me what is eternity,
I perish in the most brilliant moment.
Don't tell me what is maturity,
I end in the moment I begin.

Fiona Fung - The Glorious Death

I was watching a trailer yesterday and happened to chance upon this sad little song. This sad song beautifully draws out the sadness. Or maybe I just like the sadness of the tune. This little tune here is perfect for those dying scenes in ancient or pre-modern era. I noticed that in mainland dramas (Four Women Conflict, Chinese Paladin) when the heroine dies in the finale, she'll often slowly die in a garden of cherry blossoms. The main guy would carry his dying girl slowly through this cherry blossom garden and as he walks the cherry blossoms gently fall around them. So surreal. Yeah...this little tune would be perfect for those drama moments.

Derek Chua

Wilson Chen

I Will Not Like You

I think I shouldn't, shouldn't love you
I fight and fight to not love you
So I make myself like you
So that you will not bare to part from me
I think I dislike, dislike the proud you
Dislike the beautiful, beautiful you
So I need to fake dislike for you
Then you will not bare to ever leave me

I must say I really will not like you
I dislike you dominating all my thoughts
Even your subtle smile is like an encouragement
From morning breakfast, to dinner in the evening...
Don't smile, don't smile; I will not like you

I surrender, I'm free
You're still in front of me,
I like, I dislike
I cannot let you make me breathless
But from the start I should've realized, I'm already helplessly
Secretly, in love with you

You don't need to understand, I really will not like you
I don't want you to be disappointed because of me
A city drenched in rain, would still be beautiful, as long as it held your presence
From the brightness of sunlight, to the moonshine of the night
Stop thinking, stop thinking, I will not like you
Stop thinking, stop thinking, I will not like you

Justice Served for Second Leads

2007 was Fated to Love You & My Lucky Star
2009 was Autumn’s Concerto
2011 is In Time With You

It looks like every odd year an exceptional drama will come out and make me go crazy for it and then make me feel depressed when it ends. Thank you very much. It’s a pleasure to be tortured with the waiting.

In Time With You has…it has…surpassed Autumn’s Concerto. The camera movement, the directing, the acting, and the storyline are all absolutely stunning. It’s truly a well-crafted piece of artwork that goes above and beyond.(But I still love Autumn's Concerto, just that, I now also love In Time With You)

In Time With You is a special drama that deserves its own special category. It is in no way, shape, or form an idol drama. If this was an idol drama, Ding Li Wei would be the male lead, and Li Da Ren would be the second male lead. Thank goodness, this is not an idol drama. Also, Ariel is an actress, not an idol. And Wilson Chen is an actor, not an idol. Put this actress and this actor together, and you’ve got Cheng You Qing and Li Da Ren. They’re best friends and nothing more than best friends, but in their hearts, they yearn to be more than just best friends. But this drama is more than just being about platonic friendships. It’s also a drama dedicated to the second male leads who are often thrown to the side like spaghetti. This is Li Da Ren’s, Hua Tuo Ye’s(Autumn’s Concerto), Dylan’s (Fated to Love You), and all second male leads’ story. This drama is their voice. Thank you, director, for making them the lead after so many years. Thank you.

Did you notice that there were three pairs of platonic friends, three pairs of Cheng You Qings and Li Da Rens. The first pair is Da Ren’s mom and Uncle Bai. They got married. The second pair is Cheng You Qing and Li Da Ren. They also got married. The last pair is Ping An and Chen Kai. They are still lost in the maze. Right now, those two are at the same stage where Li Da Ren told Cheng You Qing that he doesn’t like girls like her. Perhaps 10 years later, they will end up like You Qing and Da Ren or maybe 40 years later, they’ll end up like Da Ren’s mom and Uncle Bai. Either way, they still have lots of corners to turn. I love all those scenes where Da Ren just stands back and watches the two of them walk down the very same path that he and You Qing are walking on. Hopefully, their next stop will be happiness.

The last episode exploded. With hugs and kisses and sweetness and goosebumps. I’ve never seen Li Da Ren smile so much and so wide before! He’s a very happy man. A very attentive happy man. My favorite scene in the last episode was Da Ren’s lame proposal and his lame diamond ring! HAHAHAHAHA! You Qing was like, “I’ve never heard such a lame proposal before. Even the ring is like this.” Hahahahaa. Happiness is like this.

Da Ren waited 10 years for Cheng You Qing. And I waited 21 years for Li Da Ren and Cheng You Qing to get married. And they did. On my birthday. =D

Jessica Hsuan crowned TVB's 'Queen of Hostages'

Source: Mingpao
Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net/forums/

TVB Anniversary Awards will be held on December 5th. Who will be the next TV Queen, the answer will be reveal that night. However, Jessica Hsuan gets a head start, as she is first crowned as "TVB's Queen of Hostage" and it was said the "Best Hostage Award" (TN: Not a real award..) should go to her. Being the Queen of Hostage, Jessica didn't just get that reputation without merit. In TVB, Jessica was held 'hostage' countless amounts of times, really "10 fingers can't count them all".

Following Law Lok Lam's record of "5 deaths in 24 hours", he becomes an artist that is internationally known. In TVB series, Jessica holds a record of being held 'hostage' 12 times and more.

At the Hong Kong Golden Discussion Forum (高登討論區), there is a topic on "Jessica Hsuan is the Queen of Hostage". A determined Netizen went through Jessica's TVB series over the some 10 years she's been with the company and collected a bunch of screen captures showing the number of times Jessica has been held hostage in a TVB series. Her older series include Detective Investigation Files IVWitness to a ProsecutionGame of DeceitA Step Into the PastDicey BusinessA Matter of CustomsLady FanGolden FaithSisters of Pearl; the more recent series include Gun Metal GreyA Pillow Case of Mystery II and the currently airing Curse of the Royal Harem. When counting the series that weren't 'caught' yet, it is estimated that Jessica has been held hostage more than 12 times.

A Netizen said TVB scriptwriters loves to tie Jessica up, while some Netizens scolded TVB for using the same idea for over 10 years. "Where there is brightness, there is darkness. Where there is superman, there is evil. Where there is Jessica, there is bound to be a hostage case." There are also some people who said in many specific scenes, for example, if there is a rape scene, Natalie Tong will definitely be there. If there is a scene of 'murder by a knife stabbing', there will be Kenneth Ma at the scene. Perhaps the truth is, TVB really does have a lot of hardcore fans.

"When there is brightness, there is darkness. When there is superman, there is evil. When there is Jessica, there is bound to be a hostage case." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Kidnapping is so overused in dramas, it's hackneyed.

Sharon Chan seated for 'Best Supporting Actress', takes down 6 opponents

Sharon Chan seated for 'Best Supporting Actress', takes down 6 opponents

There is a less than a month until the TVB Anniversary Awards. Currently, the major focus is to who the awards will land on. Unfortunately, this year's TV King and Queen battle is not as heated as the 'Best Supporting Actor and Actress' awards. It was said the nominations for 'Best Supporting Actress' includes Sharon Chan (Ghetto Justice), Natalie Tong (The Other Truth), Aimee Chan (The Other Truth), Nancy Wu (Forensic Heroes III), Helena Ma (The Other Truth), Mannor Chan (Wax and Wane) and Vivien Yeo (A Great Way to Care).

As one of the hot favorites for 'Best Supporting Actress' award this year, Sharon Chan expressed, at an event yesterday, she has confidence in herself because her role in Ghetto Justice was a breakthrough for her. However, she also supports Elena Kong: "I hope Myolie Wu and Kevin Cheng win the award together for Ghetto Justice. It would be best if our series gets Best Series Award as well." Yesterday when Sharon learned her good friend Joe Ma was absent from the event because he's suffering from a stomach flu, she frankly said she gave him a call to ask of his condition. As for her recent Weibo post that she's greatly pressured, Sharon expressed she's just referring to the long hours of filming for her new series, but TVB really cares about her and understands she needs time to rest.

Ruco Chan "Oldest Newcomer Award"

Also, Ruco Chan has been heavily promoted by TVB recently and is in on the TV King race for his role in The Other Truth. Yesterday reporters contacted Ruco to ask if he's surprised? He said: "Of course not, I am already happy to death to be part of the nominations. (Do you have confidence?) Many people support me for the Most Improved award, but if the name changes to 'Oldest Newcomer Award', then I would have more confidence!" As for Raymond Wong, he had great success last year, but this time in The Other Truth, Ruco Chan climbs over him. Raymond expressed he is not disappointed, and supports Ruco for the Most Improved Actor award.

In other news, Joe Ma was absent from the event with Sharon, his manager uploaded a photo on Weibo of Joe in the hospital and publicly apologized to the advertiser for his absence. Many of his good friends forwarded the Weibo post and wished Joe a speedy recovery.

Sharon! Sharon! Sharon! I would be a little upset if she didn't get the award, but then it's TVB and their award system isn't quite based on merit and performance...yah. On the other hand, how the heck did Aimee get on the list with The Other Truth! We're talking about the BEST SUPPORTING right? Yah, her nomination doesn't make sense to me at all.

Let's Start From Here

Let's start from here 無所謂 慢慢來
I don't care where we go .Let's start from here

Let's start from here 無所謂 就算愛
I don't care where we go .Let's start from here Let's start from here

Start from here 無所謂 慢慢來

I don't care where we go .Let's start from here Mm.....
Let's start from here Let's start from here Let's start from here

泪水将我淹没 (tears are drowning me)
到底谁该难过 (who should actually be sad?)
究竟是谁放掉 (who actually gave up)

我才终于明白 (i finally come to know)
现实中幸福永远缺货 (in reality, happiness is forever in shortage)

请告诉她我不爱她 (please tell her/him, i don't love her/him)
想终止这一切挣扎 (want to stop all these struggle)
横了心说真心谎话 (set my heart to say a truthful lie)

别告诉她我还想她 (don't tell her/him, i still love her/him)
恨总比爱容易放下 (hate is always easier to put down than love)
当泪水堵住了胸口 (when tears blocks the chest)

我不爱我不痛我不懂 (i don't love, i don't feel pain, i don't understand)
我的心早已掏空 (my heart is already emptied)
真心话言不由衷 (heartfelt words are not truthful)

Flyn Zeng
Flyn Zeng

You’ve finally hold my hands bravely.
You said you’ve loved me for a long time
I nodded
Holding your hand, and we’re together.

You said you will bring me to travel around the world
We are going to stay till the end of the world
With you protecting me, my heart can be set free
Hands are held, sky is broader

Because of your accompaniment, my world is no longer dark
My sky no longer flies recklessly because you are there.
You are my wings, accompanying me ahead
Letting me learn that after rain and thunder,  we can definitely see the rainbow
You are my wings, letting me fly
After I get tired, I have you to warm myself
You let me be more brave, more strong

You said you will bring me to travel around the world
We are going to stay till the end of the world
With you protecting me, my heart can be set free
Hands are held, sky is broader

Because of your accompaniment, my world is no longer dark
My sky no longer flies recklessly because you are there.

You are my wings, accompanying me ahead
Letting me learn that after rain and thunder,  we can definitely see the rainbow

You are my wings, letting me fly
After I get tired, I have you to warm myself
You let me be more brave, more strong
I just hope that you'll be always by my side.
You are my wings, accompanying me ahead

Letting me learn that after rain and thunder,  we can definitely see the rainbow
You are my wings, letting me fly
After I get tired, I have you to warm myself
You let me be more brave, more strong

The Geometry Behind Serendipitous Meetings

In dramas, we often encounter scenes where one half is looking for the other half. And usually, three things happen. Either they find each other across the street, they find each other on the other end of a bridge, or they don't find each other at all.

Finding each other across the street adds an element of surprise and defies the laws of nature. The first time you see it, it's like "Wow, that won't happen in real life". The second time, it's =/. The third time, it becomes a clique. It defies the laws of nature (or mathematics). Since when do points on parallel lines ever meet? The answer is never.

Imagine that the streets were parallel lines and people on the streets are points on the lines. Then the most that point a on Line A and point b on Line B can do, is wave at each other, because parallel lines will never intersect. So geometrically, finding each other across the street and then running towards each other is impossible.

Finding each other across a bridge is very romantic, especially in Asian cultures, where bridges are connected to the story of the cow herder and silk weaver. Meeting across a bridge sends a very powerful message about the two people's relationship. Again, three things can happen. First, when both parties' backs are turned towards the direction they came from, then they are meeting each other at the center like the cow herder and the silk weaver.

Second, if both parties' backs are turned towards the same direction, then one party is leaving while the other is looking on with tears in thy tears or they are walking together hand in hand. If both parties' backs are opposite each other, then they have separated and are walking their own paths.

Geometrically speaking, the direction matters the most here since they are both on the same line. If they're going in opposite directions, they're done. One is going to go to negative infinity, the other to positive infinity.

Apparently there is a fourth outcome. Episode 4 of "In Time With You" broke the norm and went for something even better.

Ariel and Bo Lin have their first phone conversation after a particularly awkward period in their friendship. Ariel yells joyfully into the phone and Bo Lin looks up from his phone. They turn their heads and make eye contact. At first, it looks like they are on opposite sides of the street. But then the camera pans out...and OH MY GOD, they are on a circular fountain path! They spotted each other on a circle! I know I'm making a big deal out of this, but it IS a big deal! They're on a circle! Director, you are so brilliant!

Why am I so excited that they met on a circle and not a line? Because geometrically speaking, a circle is round which means every starting point is also an ending point. Take two points to be anywhere on the circle. Those two points will always see each other, no matter where they are located. Also, it doesn't matter which direction either point travels, they will always meet because they are on a circle.

You must must watch In Love With You. It's a cleverly directed drama that has extremely insightful views on love and friendship.

Office Girls Episode 2 Summary

Office Girls is a very typical idol drama. It screams idol drama in every sense and scene. Exaggerated actions and expressions, rich guy and poor girl, male lead is the silly one, male second lead is the talented one, female lead is gullible, female second lead is pretty and evil, topped off with the wacky suporting actors. It uses the same old formula but yet it's so darn addicting. And that has to do with the chemistry among the cast, the acting skills of the actors, and the tiny quirks that they inject into their characters.

Roy's acting has improved by leaps and bounds. There's something very special about him that makes me focus all my attention on him whenever he comes on the screen. Another scene stealer is Patrick Li, the very wacky manager who likes to play with dinosaurs. He's so over with his expressions and actions. He's hilarious! Put the two scene stealers together, and it's a battle of the wits.

Recapping Office Girls is turning out to be quite difficult. Most of the laughing points are with the actors' expressions and actions.  Recapping it totally can not express the silliness in their expression and actions. For Office Girls, it's actually better to watch it than read it. But I'm not giving up, kekeke. Here goes episode 2:

Office Girls Episode 1 Summary

I promise I'll finish my Autumn's Concerto episode summaries one day. But here is my newest addiction. Office Girls, starring Roy Qiu and Alice Ke! Roy, Roy, Roy~ boy oh boy. He's sooo charming, and dashing, and silly, and soo creative. This guy is exploding with popularity. Almost every idol drama male lead is a rich guy. This drama follows the same exact idol formula, but there's some freshness to it because of the chemistry between the leads and the supporting characters. Well, here comes episode 1, enjoy while I still have that fire

Amber Ann 安心亞 - I Can Be Brave 我可以很勇敢

There's no right or wrong in love, doesn't matter what others say.
Because you are the reason why I'm willing to risk everything to love.
I'm like a lonely flower standing in the rain
And you're the hand that holds the umbrella

A love with so many rumors, how long can it last
I never doubted because your hand was so warm
Let's go, together to the most beautiful afterwards in life
Having you, perfects me.

I can be very brave, I can also be very simple
Experienced it, splendid loneliness and silence is finally ordinary
Outside, no matter how big the winds and rains
It can't enter our small world
The firmness in your eyes
Is the most beautiful serenity.

If time could be reversed
My decision won't change
Even if it gets more difficult
You are worth my courage to love

I can be very brave, I can also be very simple
Back towards the whole world, hugging you, then I won't be lonely
Forever protecting my everyday
Is your eternal promise to love
So happiness is not hard
Love makes everything easy, very easy

Happy Birthday Autumn's Concerto

I've finally walked out of my Autumn's Concerto depression. I still miss this drama but not like crazy anymore. It'll definitely still be a drama that I'll remember and treasure. It was the first drama that made me go totally crazy for it. I became a big fan of Ady and I started to pay more attention to Van Ness. Ding Dang also got my attention with her powerful voice that sung the theme song of Autumn's Concerto.

Yesterday was the second anniversary of the premiere of Autumn's Concerto. Happy Birthday, dear drama! (People must think I'm crazy for celebrating the birthday of a drama, hahaha) Thank you for everything!

Lives of Omission: The Three Alternate Endings

WARNING SPOILERS BELOW!!

Lives of Omission producer Chuang Wai Kin had originally prepared 4 different endings for the series ranging from ‘extremely tragic’ to ‘happily ever after’ in the hopes of catering to audience’s tastes. In the end, the producer chose the ending in which Yiu Ho Ho [Kate Tsui] gets shot by Bai Co [Bosco Wong] but doesn’t die, Madam Jo [Fala Chen] falls to her death, and Laughing Gor [Michael Tse] goes to jail after killing Bai Co (So Sing Pak).

We all know how the series actually ended, but what about the other 3 endings that were filmed and not used? Below, screenwriter Lai Sin Yee reveals the content of the other 3 ‘alternate’ endings and the reasons why those endings were not chosen for the final cut.

Ending 1: Happily Ever After

Madam Jo is injured and goes into a coma. Laughing seeks Bai Co for revenge and flips a coin to determine whether he will kill Bai Co or not. The result of the coin toss is ‘heads’ and Laughing lets Bai Co go, thereby giving up on seeking revenge. ‘Good things happen to good people’, as Madam Jo awakes from her coma and she and Laughing get married.

Reason this ending was scrapped: Yiu Ho Ho already escapes death in the end; if both Madam Jo and Bai Co don’t die either, it will give the audiences the feeling that all of the main characters ‘escaped from calamity’.

Ending 2: Yiu Ho Ho dies

After Madam Jo falls to her death, Laughing discovers that Yiu Ho Ho didn’t die, so he kidnaps Ho Ho in order to force Bai Co to appear so he can seek revenge. Laughing shoots Bai Co, but Yiu Ho Ho takes the bullet for him and dies.

Reason this ending was scrapped: Didn’t want Laughing to become a ‘villain’ type character who has to resort to kidnapping a woman in order to seek revenge.

Ending 3: Ultimate undercover

Yiu Ho Ho has been using the roles of ‘lawyer’ and ‘girlfriend’ to get close to Bai Co. On the surface, she is helping him get to the top position of the triad organization and become its leader, but in reality, she is the ‘ultimate undercover’ agent sent by the police whose purpose is to gather incriminating evidence against Bai Co and the rest of the triad organization.

Reason this ending was scrapped: Too bold and imaginative, difficult to continue with the plot.

Creds: Ming Pao/AF/HKChannel

I'm glad they aired the actual ending because these other three are so flawed in their own ways. The first one is the oh-so-typical TVB happy ending. That ending would have squeezed the air out of the drama. No Good.  The second ending has Laughing stealing Michael's job as the villain. Not too fond of it. The third one is just hilarious! It would really adhere to "UCs are everywhere".

West Meets East

Music is the universal language that overcomes all barriers.

This is one of the few good scenes in the new Princess Pearl trilogy.

The once perfect and complete group has now split into two parties and gone separate ways. Surprisingly, I feel sad. I really disliked this show in the beginning, but I continued watching for the sake of watching. I don't when but I started to look forward to this show. I think 98% is due to my anticipation of Xiao Jian and Qing Er's scenes. To me, they are the highlight of this new trilogy. Benji is cool too, except, you really have to spend some time accepting him. Today, Benji, Xiao Yan Zi, Xiao Jian, and Qing Er, have decided to continue their journey south to DaLi. The rest of the crew follow Emperor Qianlong back to the capital where Er Kang finally gets the Empress Dowager's permission to stick to Zi Wei like Super glue.

Laughing & Jodie

Laughing and Madam Jo from Lives of Omission.

Nooooo~ this show is coming to end this week!!! This is one of rare TVB dramas that managed to keep its hype from beginning to end. Every single episode is a roller coaster ride. Ok, that may be exaggerating, but it is very exciting because of the numerous twists. Take a left turn, you find out this guy's an undercover. Take a right turn, and this other guy is an undercover. Oh my gosh~ in the end, everyone will turn out to be UCs. Hahahaha.

Irene is coming

Hurricane Irene is coming tomorrow!

Hopefully, it won't be as severe as the media depicts it to be!

I got my candles, batteries, and flashlights just in case power goes out.

Edit: *whew* Bye Irene! Don't come back!

Irene did not do as much damage as it was predicted to do by experts and the media.

That's a good thing. It's still very windy out and many places are flooded. But everything seems to be fine now.

Just have to wait for the MTA to get back on track now so I can go to school on Monday.

Afterthoughts

The main storyline wavered between boring and exciting. It was very different from the first one. The first one was very modern, stylish, and thrilling! They had secrets that had to be uncovered through very dangerous means. They had to join together to beat this almighty international evil organization. The storyline of Unbeatable I was exciting! Unbeatable II, on the other hand, has a much toned down storyline. The almighty international evil organization is weaker than they were portrayed in Unbeatable I. And they don't do much in the second season besides providing financial support to their minions. Another reason why Unbeatable I was more captivating is the portrayal of office politics. In an all female environment. High EQ girl vs. High EQ girl. On the surface, they seem to be having a normal conversation but under the table, every line has a double meaning.

In terms of storyline, Unbeatable I wins. In terms of relationships, Unbeatable II wins. Why? Unbeatable I had Kelly with Huang Kai, Cherry with Zhuo Yuan, Sharon with Kevin.  Of the three, my favorite is Sharon and Kevin. In Unbeatable II, there are Xu Ran with Qi Qi, Jiang Dong with Lu Fei, and Wei Xiao with Ye Rou. And my favorite is of course, Wei Xiao with Ye Rou. It happens that Ye Rou and Sharon are both played by the same actress, Stephy Qi Wei. Therefore, the real showdown is Kevin vs. Wei Xiao. And Wei Xiao wins by lots of miles! He's funny and he's not even trying to be funny. Also, I'd add that he has the best script lines. Who can forget "I don't use shampoo, I use soap"!

Wei Xiao and Ye Rou are the main reason why I continued watching this drama. Otherwise, I would have given up a long time ago. Their bickering takes bickering to a whole new level. I'm in the process of documenting all their interactions in the drama. What really breaks my heart with this couple is that their scenes are cut left and right, to the point, where their love storyline becomes very choppy. What a pity. They were such an powerful pairing! Whoever was doing the editing was quite ruthless towards this couple. I mean, the reason for all this editing is because they're going to have sequel that focuses on them, right? (cross fingers and hope) Their relationship is very fun to explore. An older woman who sees nightclubs as a second home paired up with a younger man whose mother once objected to his brother marrying a much older woman. The woman is a PR director of a large company turned PR director of a smaller company, while he is a civilian police turned superstar. Yepp, they definitely need a sequel.

I skipped most of Hu Ge scenes with Tang Yan. The problem is not with the actors but with the character, Tang Qi Qi. She seemed more like a third lead character that suddenly got the spotlight. Her character's only purpose was to be Xu Ran's love interest. What a waste of a good actress. This character was just too boring as in there were no qualities or personality traits that I come to admire. Her uselessness became apparent in the last episode. While everyone else was busy fighting the evil force, she spent the time pondering with her housemates on why Xu Ran broke up with her (in case you're wondering, he was trying to protect her). The reason why Xu Ran fell in love with this girl remains a mystery.

In the end, the biggest highlight of this drama is the Wei Xiao and Ye Rou pairing. The editors are biased! They showed the five year later part of Xu Ran, Qi Qi, and Lu Fei but they left out Wei Xiao and Ye Rou! Very very sad! They leave us Xiao Rou fans hanging. Time to head to the bar to read fan written sequels!
